Two religious ministers were convicted for raping a 16 year old minor. The girl was a school going student who stayed in the hostel run by them. This case was reported to DMWSC by a lady who lived in the same neighborhood. On being interrogated, the lady said that she had observed the girl closely and had a sense that something was wrong.
With the help of the police and child line DMWSC rescued the girl.
Later it was found that she had been a victim of rape for three years.
The FIR was lodged in the police station nearby. The case was taken up by the Darjeeling court. One of the staff of the Mary Ward Social Centre followed the case and the court proceedings along with the victim.
On 28th of April 2016, the accused were found guilty and the court announced their final verdict. Both of them were sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment and were to pay a fine of Rs. 5000/-
