Mrs. Seema Gupta was in her mid-twenties. Like many other women in India she too was a victim of domestic violence. Her husband physically abused her. The only compassion she received was from their family friend Ravi. He knew that she was a victim of her husband’s torture. Ravi empathized with her and before they knew it they were in love with each other.
A few promises made and the next thing you know they eloped! Leaving her husband and her little son behind, she stepped outside the cage in which she had been trapped in for years now. Seema and Ravi were all set to begin with their new life. They worked in the same place. Ravi had promised to marry her. Because of this, she decided to give all her energy into making the relationship work well.
In less than a year Seema could see her history repeating itself. Ravi turned out to be no different from her husband. It had been 3 years and he still had found some excuses to postpone their marriage. Even after having been abused all over again, Seema, at this time, did not seem to have any other option other than marrying Ravi. What would she do without him? Where would she go? Her family would never accept her.
And then, one day, Ravi was all set to marry. The only difference was that the bride was not Seema.
Breathing in her worst nightmare, Seema started looking for help. That is when somebody suggested to her that she visit the Darjeeling Mary Ward Social Centre in Champasari. She visited Sister Leena, the Director of the Centre. With the help of Miss Margaret Horo, the Paralegal Volunteer, Mrs. Gupta lodged an FIR against Ravi on the 17th of August, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. At 7:30 p.m, Mr. Ravi had been put behind bars.
