Darjeeling Mary Ward Social Centre (DMWSC) celebrated the world day against child labour at Painikumari Tea Garden here in Siliguri on 19th of June 2019. Smt. Jerminna Ekka (Supervisor Collective Voice) made an opening speech on child labour in the recent global context. She further elongated on the root cause of child labour and its vile repercussion on the society. Mr. Kaushik Roy Choudhury (Coordinator Migration) was the MC of the program; he added that the persistence of child labour is rooted in poverty and lack of decent work for adults, lack of social protection, and a failure to ensure that all children are attending school. He further requested the family to send their children for attending mediation program at DMWSC, twice in a week. The children of Fulbaripatan performed a remarkable skit on child labour; quiz was held for each one present during the program irrespective of age or gender and a ball pen was rewarded for the correct answer to the participants. A hurdle game and throw ball was organised at the venue where men, women and children participated with much exhilaration. The Director of DMWSC gave elucidated speech on child labour at the end of the program and she handed over the prize to the winners of the games. Refreshment drinks and cakes were distributed to the participants and the program was ended with a vote of thanks by the Coordinator of Safe Migration.
