The Discovery of a Missing Child Through Social Media
On July 4th, 2015, a young 16-year-old girl by the name of Haleema Rajagobal went missing. Without having notified her father of her whereabouts, all she left in her home was a letter explaining her apology for having to leave and to never return. In having seen this letter just after 5 a.m, Haleema’s father, known as Vaistra Rajagobal, came immediately to the DMWSC for help. He was directed to the social centre’s legal representor, Margret Horo, who helped him in searching for his daughter. They did this by compiling a missing report at the police station. Aside from this, it became necessary to approach Vaistra’s friends and inquire as to whether they had an idea of Haleema’s whereabouts. After some interrogation, Margret had made the decision to look for clues through social media. To her luck, it was on facebook where she found a picture of Haleema in a children’s park. Once she was identified, the personnel of the DMWSC worked together rapidly to find her the next day. Towards 4:30 p.m on July 5th, 2017, Haleema was comfortably brought back home.
