Two minors,Snigdha and Shruti; sixteen and thirteen years old respectively, were rescued by the community people of Gulma Tea Estate in Silguri, West Bengal. The people handed them over to an associate of the Mary Ward Social Centre.
During the post investigation period, the police informed that the two girls had run away from their school hostel because they were being subjected to violence. While in their absence the hostel in-charge had falsely made their parents believe that their children had been kidnapped. Hence, their parents were led to file an F.I.R. for kidnapping.
The hostel in-charge fled the place soon after the truth was exposed.
For the better interest of the kids, the police handed the custody of the girls over to the child-line instead of to their parents.
