One Billion Rising was celebrated on the 14th of February 2023 with the theme “Rise for Freedom” in collaboration with Human life Development and Research centre, Seva Kendra, and Mankind in Action for Rural Growth in Kiranchandra Tea Garden. The chief guest for the programme was Shri Arun Ghosh, Savadipati Siliguri Mahakuma. The participants for the programme were women from more than ten tea garden areas along with the other community people. OBR is mostly celebrated as a symbolic day for love and lovers and is named as Valentine’s Day. While we are enthralled with all the things associated with Valentine’s Day, we fail to see the other side of the story, the unilluminated and contemptible side, the atrocious and detestable, and abominable side of the society, brutality towards women and girls. Hence, this day is dedicated to empower women and girls and raise awareness to end such atrocity towards women.
