The One Billion Rising Campaign & International Women’s Day Celebration 2025
The One Billion Rising Campaign and International Women’s Day Celebration at Sahid Bir Birsa Munda Adivasi Maidan, Naxalbari, was a powerful expression of unity, resilience, and hope. Organized by Darjeeling Mary Ward Social Centre (DMWSC), the event aimed to raise awareness about gender-based violence, promote women’s rights, and highlight the importance of women’s empowerment in the community.
The program began with a warm welcome, followed by vibrant traditional dance performances that celebrated cultural pride and strength. Roma Rashmi Ekka, Sahakari Sabhadhipati of Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad, delivered the keynote address, setting an inspiring tone for the event. Special guest Rina Ekka, Sabhapati of Phansidewa Panchayat Samiti, along with other dignitaries, social activists, and community leaders, graced the occasion with their presence and valuable insights.
Throughout the day, speeches, creative performances, and open discussions focused on critical issues like gender equality, social justice, and the protection of women’s rights. Topics such as legal rights, available government schemes, and the need for stronger community support for women were highlighted. The celebration ended with a renewed commitment from all attendees to stand together against injustice and work toward a more equal society.
